A historic landmark in Northeastern Oregon, Cove Warm Springs is located at the southern edge of a small town of Cove in Union County. The natural mineral springs are not steaming hot springs; the water temperature of the source and pool is around 86°F that is perfect for summer swimming.
Due to the excellent springs flow at a rate of 110 gallons per minute, the water in the pool is totally replaced several times a day. For this reason, it meets state water quality requirements and no chlorination is required. The 60-by-65-foot swimming pool is built over the mineral spring source that flows up directly from a 15-by-15-foot opening that looks like a dark patch on the pool's bottom. The pool is mostly concrete except the gravel base of the source.
Operated continuously almost eight decades, the Cove Warm Springs facility opens for recreational swimming from the end of May to Labor Day.
Picnic areas in shade of big woods provide a relaxing setting after or between refreshing swimming. Also, playground and a snack bar are available. The owner lives in a house nearby.
There are hiking and fishing opportunities in the Eagle Cap Wilderness (Wallowa Mountains), thanks to its proximity to Cove Warm Springs.
