McPhillips Beach, a two-mile stretch of sandy shoreline in the Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area, is a hidden gem of the Oregon Coast. Located just three miles north of Cape Kiwanda and Pacific City, the beach boasts a rugged and colorful landscape with sandstone formations, steep bluffs, and imposing cliffs.  Its tranquil atmosphere makes it a serene alternative to the busier southern beach. While quieter, it can still see an uptick in visitors during peak seasons.

McPhillips is a great place for beachcombing, fat tire biking, driving on the beach, off-leash dog exercises, picnicking, and, of course, enjoying the serenity of the Pacific Northwest Coast.

To access McPhillips, take an unmarked road 1.3 miles north of the Cape Kiwanda parking lot. You can leave your vehicle at the gravel parking or keep driving downhill.

McPhillips Beach Rockhounding and Tidepool Exploring

McPhillips Beach can be a productive rockhounding spot. After winter storms, the powerful waves often shift the sand, revealing treasures like agates, jaspers, and marine fossils. The gravel bars around Miles Creek, where it meets the ocean, are particularly worth exploring.

At low tide, visitors can enjoy tidepooling near the rocks and sea stacks, discovering vibrant marine creatures like sea anemones and starfish.
