The day-use area sits north of the entrance and has picnic tables, accessible flush toilets, and beach access.
Beachside State Recreation Site is a fantastic beachfront camping spot with plenty of adventures in the area, including beachcombing, nature viewing, picnicking, hiking, kayaking, surfing, surf fishing, and more.
Hiking, Biking, & Beachcombing
Sandy Wakonda Beach stretches for 6 miles from Yaquina John Point in the north to the edge of the rocky shoreline of Yachats in the south. This provides plenty of area for a relaxing stroll or an extended hike as well as fat biking.
Since Wakonda Beach is sandy, there isn't much rockhounding here. Unless you show up after a winter storm on the low tide when some gemstones might surface.
Beachcombing, however, is great. The length of the beach allows you to walk for hours and look for sea shells, sea glass, driftwood, and other gifts of the ocean.
Wakonda Beach is a fantastic place for surf fishing. You can expect to catch sea perch, rockfish, greenling, and other species.
Surfing And Kayaking
The shore of the state park is an excellent spot for multiple water activities, including surfing and kayaking.
Surfers prefer the stormy weather for the exciting waves, while kayakers usually appear during the calmer times.
