Lost Creek State Recreation Site sits just a few miles south of Newport. Although it is close to popular attractions like Yaquina Head Lighthouse, the area feels quiet and uncrowded.
Beach access is easy. A short 0.1-mile paved path leads from the parking lot to the sand, with no steep climbs.
Once on the beach—often called Lost Creek Beach or Holiday Beach—you’ll find a pristine shoreline ideal for beachcombing, rockhounding, fishing, and peaceful walks along the water.
Picnic tables near the trail offer a good place to relax and enjoy the scenic views.
Interesting fact: During World War I, nearby forests were heavily logged for Sitka spruce used in airplane construction. A railroad once carried timber from south of Waldport to Yaquina Bay. Although the tracks are gone, this history remains part of the area.
