• The park forests were logged during World War I for Sitka spruce to build airplanes

Lost Creek State Recreation Site sits just a few miles south of Newport. Even though it's close to popular tourist attractions like the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, it feels wonderfully quiet and peaceful.
Reaching Lost Creek Beach is easy. From the parking lot, a short 0.1-mile paved path leads directly to the sandy shoreline—no strenuous hikes or steep climbs required. Along the way, picnic tables provide a perfect spot to relax and take in the scenic views. Restrooms are also available.
Once you step onto the sand, you'll find yourself on Holiday Beach, a stunning four-mile stretch of pristine shoreline. Often referred to as Lost Creek Beach, this area is ideal for beachcombing, rockhounding, fishing, and peaceful strolls along the water.
Interestingly, the nearby forests were heavily logged during World War I for Sitka spruce to build airplanes. A railroad once ran from south of Waldport to Yaquina Bay, transporting logs to support the war effort. Though the tracks are long gone, this history remains a fascinating part of the region’s past.
