• Salt Creek Falls is one of the tallest waterfall in Oregon with scenic hiking trails and veiwpoints
Salt Creek Falls is a stunning waterfall in the Willamette National Forest, about 21 miles from Oakridge.
At 286 feet tall, it is one of the tallest and most impressive waterfalls in Oregon. This powerful waterfall is formed by Salt Creek, a tributary of the Middle Fork Willamette River.
Surrounded by old-growth forests of Douglas fir, mountain hemlock, and western hemlock, Salt Creek Falls is a perfect place to explore nature, hike scenic trails, and capture incredible photographs.

Visiting Salt Creek Falls
The first time I visited Salt Creek Falls, I was blown away by its power. During peak flow, the falls can send enormous volumes of water into the canyon below. From the viewing platform just a short walk from the parking area, you can feel the mist and hear the roar.
The main viewing platform is wheelchair accessible, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the falls.
The U.S. Forest Service manages the site and requires a day-use fee for parking.

Salt Creek Falls Hiking Trails
Salt Creek Falls offers several hiking options starting from the parking area.
The most popular route leads toward Diamond Creek Falls, a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall located downstream in the forest. This trail passes through lush forest, crosses small bridges, and offers scenic views along the canyon.
From the main viewpoint, a short stairway trail also descends to a lower viewing platform, giving a more dramatic angle of Salt Creek Falls. While it is possible to continue farther down toward the canyon floor, the terrain becomes steep and loose and is not maintained, so it is not recommended for most visitors.
These trails are best for those who want to explore the forest and experience multiple waterfalls on a single hike. I always pack snacks, water, and my camera to enjoy a few hours in the area.
Salt Creek Falls is a fantastic spot for nature viewing and photography. The combination of a powerful waterfall, lush forest, and dramatic canyon walls makes it one of the best photography locations in the Oregon Cascades.
